Coming to Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s groundbreaking TMT Digital Network on September 9, 2025, The Wake-Up Call is a powerful short film rooted in truth, transformation, and second chances.
Based on a true story, the film follows Micah (Karon Riley, The Black Hamptons (BET), Miss Governor (Netflix)), Wicked City (ALLBLK)), a man shaken by the tragic loss of his best friend, Aaron (Kevin Savage, For What It’s Worth (BET+)). When a serendipitous pocket dial connects him to Jada (Crystal Renay, Bold & Bougie (TV Series – WEtv)), Micah is forced to confront his past choices. With Aaron’s last words echoing in his mind, Micah embarks on a journey of self-reflection, change, and the pursuit of a more meaningful life.
Writer Lem Collins (I Got A Story To Tell, BET+) revealed that the story was inspired by his own college experience. “One of my roommates died in a car accident years ago,” Collins shared. “I never deleted his number, and one day I accidentally called it. Someone answered—it was a stranger. We didn’t form a connection like in the film, but that moment sparked the idea for this story.” Before its digital debut, The Wake-Up Call made its official premiere at the celebrated Urban Film Festival in Miami, Florida, a vibrant three-day platform dedicated to elevating culturally driven content and new-generation filmmakers
