Meet Karli Beauty | The Esthetician

Q&A:

What inspired you to pursue a career in the beauty industry?

I have always had a passion for the beauty industry. I have been into my hair, nails, and skincare since I was a little girl. As a teenager, others discouraged me when I wanted to attend beauty school. While in college, I took a part-time job at Sephora, because I loved being able to work with and help other women. From there, I started praying and asking God to help me find a career in the beauty industry I could do on my own. One year later, I took a lashing course, and from there, my dreams finally came true.

Can you share a memorable moment from your early days in the industry?

During my early days in the industry, I had a few memorable moments. One moment that stood out to me most was when I took mobile appointments and traveled to my clients’ homes. I had this one client who lived an hour out, a sweet elderly lady; she would always play the Isley Brothers, and she would always have dinner ready for me. She didn’t have to do that for me, but i appreciated the gestures, it showed her appreciation. To date, I am very grateful for the many relationships I have built over the years.

How do you define your brand within the beauty space?

Karli Beauty believes in enhancing natural features without completely changing them. Our clients are already beautiful, so we offer enhancements and help them feel more confident. We also believe in providing a safe and comfortable environment, so our clients will feel a sense of trust and build long-lasting relationships with us.

What does being featured in the Hype Hair Magazine x Bronner Bros collaboration mean to you?

This feature is very special to me. It is not easy being a young black girl in business. I am from a small town in South Carolina. But I grew up visiting Atlanta. When I think of Bronner Brother, I think of Atlanta and the best of the best in the beauty industry. As for Hype Hair Magazine, many of the women I look up to have been featured in this magazine. It is an honor to be featured. Incredibly, as a Lash Artist, we can often be overlooked compared to Hair stylists or Nail techs, but we are shaping the beauty just as much.

Where do you see yourself in your career five years from now?

Five years from now, I see myself helping beauty entrepreneurs throughout their journey. I want to help them open their own boutique or salon stores. I look forward to providing them with all of the guidance and tools they will need to get started.

Who are some of your biggest influences in the beauty industry?

Some of my biggest influences in the beauty industry would be Sierra from the Glam Shop and Styles by Nuk. These two individuals are amazing at what they do and I have always looked up to them and their work.

What areas of expertise set you apart from other professionals in your field?

Working at Sephora and attending Esthetician school taught me the value of education regarding products. At my Lash Bar, we are known for educating our clients on each service so we can help them attain their looks without damaging their natural features. Also, I have a passion for helping others, I love working with students and my team members have challenged me for the better.

How vital are diversity and inclusivity in the beauty industry, and how do you contribute to it?

Diversity is significant in the beauty industry because we do not all look the same, and the services we provide will be different and catered especially to each individual. We believe that representation Is essential in every industry. My contribution to the beauty industry would be hiring mostly minorities for my business.

Can you share some advice for aspiring beauty professionals looking to make their mark?

My advice is to be yourself. You don’t always have to follow trends. When you continue to learn and become the best version of yourself, your tribe will find you.

What role does innovation play in your approach to beauty and haircare?

The technique of eyelash extensions is constantly evolving. I appreciate new products being on the market, which allows us beauty experts to reduce the timing of our services.

How do you balance staying true to your style while keeping up with industry trends?

I continue to use discernment and listen to my clients. If a client wants to try something new, I am willing to learn as long as it does not harm the client.

What upcoming projects or collaborations can your fans and readers look forward to?

One upcoming project my fans and readers can look forward to from me will be the release of my ebook this year all about salon ownership.

What’s your favorite beauty hack or product you can’t live without?

My KB Lash Adhesive is my absolute favorite service product. The adhesive is oil-proof and waterproof. Many Lash Artists across the U.S. use it for excellent lash retention. It can be found at Karlibeautylashbar.com
