She creates a beautiful atmosphere in the salon, and has really amazing relationships with her clients also known as her “coiffed queens”!
“ What started as a passion has grown into a purpose. Every year has allowed me to sharpen my craft, evolve with the industry, and continue serving women at the highest level.” says Dinah
The ’90s were also the era that made me fall in love with hair as ART. I grew up listening to the music, watching female artists, and studying their looks. The hair was BIG, the styles had personality, and everything had movement. And Hype Hair magazine? Oh, we were all obsessed!
Tamara Omaya: As long as you’ve been a hairstylist, what keeps you enjoying the beauty industry and your career?
Dinah Lefranc: The impact. I love how the beauty industry is always evolving and I get inspired by it all the time either with hair shows or beauty workshops. Hair is so much bigger than beauty—it’s confidence, identity, and self-expression. I love seeing a woman light up when she looks in the mirror. Being able to educate my Coiffed Queens (my clients,) help them build healthy hair, and watch them embrace their natural beauty is what drives me to do more. The beauty industry is constantly changing , and I believe learning never stops.
T.O: On social media I see that you have coined the term “Coiffed Queens and Haitian Trim” What does a Coiffed Queen & Haitian trim symbolize and mean to you?
DINAH L: A Coiffed Queen is a woman who knows her worth, embraces her beauty, and wears her crown with confidence. She’s a boss babe, mompreneur, executive, CEO, content baddies, corporate leader, professional, or simply a woman pursuing greatness. She values her hair journey, healthy hair, self-care, and everything that makes her uniquely HER. Greatness attracts greatness. You never know who you’re sitting next to by the dryers. One of the most beautiful parts of being in the salon is the conversations—the empowered, inspiring, and sometimes life-changing discussions that happen while we’re getting Coiffed. We pour into each other. We share knowledge, experiences, connections, encouragement, and wisdom. And honestly, I learn something new every day from my Coiffed Queens. Because it’s never just about the hair. It’s about the woman in the chair, the woman beside you, and the community we create together. When she sits in my chair, she gets Dinahfied—because every Queen deserves to be Coiffed by Dinah Lefranc.
T.O. Is there a favorite style you love doing for clients?
DINAH: I love anything that celebrates healthy hair with movement and versatility. Believe it or not, my favorite thing to do is a Texture Roller Set. This is something I started doing for my mom every two weeks, and that’s where my love for roller sets began. She had beautiful, long, thick relaxed hair, and I loved how a roller set gave her so much shine, body, movement, and bounce. Today, with the majority of my clients having natural hair, I love creating Texture Roller Sets because the results are just as beautiful—full, bouncy, shiny hair with incredible longevity. It can even last longer than a silk press, while using less direct heat on the hair. There’s just something timeless about a beautiful roller set, and for me, it will always be a technique rooted in love and memories of my mom.
